LSU Working Hard to Develop Student Leaders

2007 S.T.R.I.P.E.S. Executive Board. The STRIPES program is coordinated by the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement (CSLI) in conjunction with faculty, staff and students.

May 23, 2007 — Providing meaningful learning opportunities in tandem with classroom education is a critical component of the LSU experience, a fact which is setting our university apart from its peers in higher education.  Because character development is a priority at our university, LSU has created a special center dedicated to discovering the future leaders of our society.   LSU’s Center for Student Leadership & Involvement (CSLI) is a key factor in shaping student leaders on campus, helping them learn the tools and techniques of leading others.  Housed in the Office of the Dean of Students, CSLI oversees the support, training, and educational programming for all registered student organizations and implements leadership development activities that enhance the academic experience of the student body.

Through programming, experiential learning, and leadership development opportunities, the Center complements the academic mission of Louisiana State University and prepares students to become citizens in a global community.  The Center also encourages collaboration and cooperation between campus groups, aiming for maximum student success in a positive learning environment.

One of the student initiatives under development by the Center include the L.E.A.D. Programming Series, presenting topical programming on all aspects of leadership development open to all students. The Center also annually hosts the Lagniappe Leadership Conference, a conference offering a wide variety of leadership development programs to foster individual and student organization growth.

LSU also hosts a session of the LeaderShape® Institute, an immersive leadership experience for sixty students occurring each May.  The program is intended to promote a commitment to ethical decision-making, a better understanding of leadership development, and the creation of each student’s personal vision of positive change.  Additionally, the newly developed Magnolia Roundtable brings students together for in-depth discussion on current issues impacting the University, the Baton Rouge community, and the nation.
