Nine LSU Alumni to Enter Hall of Distinction
April 16, 2008 — Nine distinguished alums will be honored by the Louisiana State University Alumni Association on April 18, 2008, when they will be inducted into its prestigious Hall of Distinction. In its one and a half centuries of operation, the University has produced leaders in education, agriculture, the sciences, the arts, government, commerce, industry, technology, and social advocacy. For 42 years, the LSU Alumni Association Hall of Distinction recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves and LSU through their careers, their personal and civic accomplishments, their volunteer activities, and their loyalty to their alma mater. The ceremony also honors two exceptional individuals with the Young Alumnus of the Year Award, given to an outstanding alumnus under the age of forty, as well as Alumnus of the Year. This year’s inductees continue to highlight the high-caliber individuals who have graduated from LSU. The following individuals will be honored this year:
- Ravi K. Arimilli is a widely-recognized leader in the IT industry. He has more than 20 years experience with IBM, leading, innovating, and architecting microprocessors, servers, storage, and interconnects. He resides in Austin, Texas.
- Donna L. Brazile is a Democratic political strategist and former Campaign Manager for Gore-Lieberman 2000. She is also a nationally syndicated columnist, political commentator, political consultant, and regular contributor to several political media outlets. She resides in Washington, D.C.
- Peter D. Burland is the president of Telomer Corporation, which manufactures and distributes telomers, water-soluble compounds that revolutionized the industrial water treatment industry worldwide. He resides in Hempstead, Texas.
- Norman V. Kinsey was a member and director of the founding group of Transco Energy Company, where he worked for 31 years. He also was a member of the founding groups of Pacific Northwest Pipeline, Texas Illinois Natural Gas Pipeline, and Piedmont Natural Gas Company. He resides in Shreveport, Louisiana.
- Roy O. Martin III, is the president of RoyOMartin, a group of family-owned, professionally managed forest products and forestland management companies. He is from Alexandria, Louisiana.
- James E. Maurin is the Chairman of Stirling Properties, one of the largest real estate services companies in the Gulf South and now nationally recognized. He resides in Hammond, Louisiana.
- Lancelot P. Olinde retired after 28 years from Exxon/Humble as the General Counsel of Exxon Coal and Minerals Company, a division of Exxon Corporation. He resides in Houston, Texas.
Young Alumnus of the Year
Kenneth T. Brown, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is one of Los Angeles most sought-after celebrity interior designer. He has been featured in numerous design publications and on his own top-rated television show, reDesign, on HGTV.
Alumnus of the Year
Charles L. Barney runs his own business, Mark I Enterprises, which invests in oil and gas as well as real estate. He also had an incredible career at Superior Oil Company traveling across the world with the petroleum industry. He resides in Houston, Texas.
The 2008 LSU Alumni Association Hall of Distinction ceremony is an invitation-only event and will be held at the Lod Cook Alumni Center on the LSU Campus on April 18, 2008 at 6:30 pm.
