February 24, 2007 – Former LSU football player and renowned Baton Rouge artist Jack Jaubert unveiled his latest LSU-themed masterwork, “ Forever LSU,” at halftime of the LSU-Florida basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. This piece is the official painting of the “Forever LSU” campaign, a university-wide effort to raise $750 million for LSU by 2010.
The painting is a vibrant collage depicting student life on LSU’s campus through its 147 years of history and features well-known landmarks and representations of campus life in LSU’s past and present.
“This was a big challenge for me to come up with an image that would reflect all that LSU might mean to so many people,” Jaubert said of his painting. “It brings up a lot of the memories and images of why LSU is held dear to them.”
The painting will be presented to each donor who gives more than $1 million to the “Forever LSU” fundraising effort.
The first recipients of the painting are Emmet and Toni Stephenson, who were also recognized at the LSU-Florida game. The Stephensons are donating one of the largest gifts ever made to LSU. (Read more about the Stephenson gift.)
Jaubert, who is well-known for his portrayals of great moments in LSU athletics history, has generously donated his time and talents in creating the commemorative image for the “Forever LSU” campaign.
“The beauty of this particular image is matched only by the generosity shown by Mr. Jaubert in creating it,” said Maj. Gen., USMC (Ret.) William Bowdon, president and CEO of the LSU Foundation. “We were looking for an original and dignified way to honor those people who go the extra mile for LSU, and Jack Jaubert has exceeded every hope we had for this image. We can’t wait to share this work with the LSU community.”
Jaubert has been painting since the age of 14. Self-taught as a painter, his works can be found in the homes of LSU alumni and friends across the globe. To learn more about Jack Jabert’s work, and to see images of his past creations, visit www.jackjaubert.com.
