Luncheon Held To Honor Former LSU Foundation President

James and Lillian Maurin recently donated $1 million to the E.J. Ourso College of Business, to assist in building the College’s new facility.

May 8, 2007 — A luncheon was held at the LSU Faculty Club on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 to honor former LSU Foundation President and university supporter Robert H. Crosby Jr., as well as James and Lillian Maurin, Crosby’s son-in-law and daughter.

The event was a celebration of the recent $1 million donation made to the LSU Foundation by the Maurins in Crosby’s name to the campaign for the new building that will eventually house LSU’s E. J. Ourso College of Business.

After being welcomed by E. J. Ourso College Dean Robert Sumichrast, guests were treated to a rendition of the “LSU Alma Mater” sung by Kathryn Drake, lunch, and remarks by LSU Chancellor Sean O’Keefe. Remarks were also made by Lillian Maurin, Mary Frey Eaton, and Robert Crosby III. A special gift was then presented to Crosby’s wife, Elizabeth, and to the Maurins for their contribution to the Forever LSU Campaign.  Several members of the Crosby family attended the luncheon, and additional guests included Ron Richard, CEO of the Tiger Athletic Foundation, and William Bowdon, president and CEO of the LSU Foundation.

Maurin, who is the chairman and CEO of Stirling Properties Inc., is also a member of the E. J. Ourso College’s Dean’s Advisory Committee. He graduated from LSU in 1971. Lillian is also a graduate of LSU and received her degree in 1970.

Crosby settled in DeRidder, La. after World War II with his wife and established Crosby Chemicals Inc. The company has evolved into Crosby Land & Resources. A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Crosby, despite not being an alumnus of LSU, served as president of the LSU Foundation in 1972. Three of his four children received degrees from the university.

Crosby and his wife reside in Mandeville, La.
