November 14, 2008

One hundred percent of the Forever LSU campaign cabinet members have participated in the campaign, contributing a combined total of $41,758,393 toward the university’s most ambitious fundraising effort to date, according to university officials.

The Forever LSU campaign’s goal is to raise $750 million by the end of 2010.

The campaign cabinet consists of approximately 50 of LSU’s most prominent alumni, supporters and friends that help facilitate the fundraising process and chair the LSU academic development committees and regional steering committees across the country.  Members of the cabinet represent the three LSU fundraising organizations: the LSU Foundation, Tiger Athletic Foundation and the LSU Alumni Association, as well as the three contiguous campuses: LSU, the Paul M. Hebert Law Center and the LSU AgCenter.

As of Sept. 30, the Forever LSU campaign has raised $534,983,402 in private giving, consisting of cash, pledges, in-kind gifts and planned giving.  As of June 30, those private gifts have generated an additional $31,600,000 in state matching funds, bringing the total from all funding sources to $566,583,402.

The Forever LSU campaign supports the LSU Flagship Agenda by raising funds for  student support, faculty support, campus-wide program support and capital building projects.  Examples of what the campaign will fund are the proposed new building for the E. J. Ourso College of Business, the proposed new building for chemical engineering, and a proposed new band hall for the Golden Band from Tigerland; the hiring of top faculty members; the LSU Alumni Association Top 100 scholarship program and numerous other student scholarship initiatives; and endowed professorships and chairs for faculty members.

Since the inception of the campaign, LSU has moved into the top tier of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” rankings, the university has achieved an all-time high in its retention and graduation rates, and a number of students have received major national scholarships and awards, including Truman Scholarships, Presidential Management Fellowships and Goldwater Scholarships, among others.
